This website is intended on providing student-centred learning by developing skills and knowledge in Food Technology (Boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au, 2015).
Overview
In the Food Technology unit, ‘Food selection and health,’ students will learn the importance of food, health and nutrient values, they will also understand and develop skills in safety and hygiene.
They will explore a variety of relationships between food, technology and nutritional status. With these new skills and knowledge, students will be provided with inclusive life skills and experiences in both a domestic and commercial setting.
In this unit students will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding of food nutritional value. Specifically food habits and personal health.
Throughout this unit students undertake a variety of assessment tasks. These being in-class activities (20%), assignments (30%) and a final topic test (50%).

Edmodo is a free to sign up website which has over 50 million teachers, students, and parents connecting to collaborate on assignments, discover new resources, and connect. It is a useful site in order for students upload work, school notes and assignments and all work off each other in regards to information.
It requires a login both teachers and students need to sign up, students must upload their work where applicable up onto Edmodo (Edmodo.com, 2015).

Assessment tasks
In-class activities: Reading texts and brainstorming information bubbles from the text given.
Listening to video clips and extracting keywords to generate a collaboration of words from the video using web 2.0 applications.
Assignment: Food Safety > Oral Presentation:
Assignment: Nutrition and health > Create a Prezi or magazine spread maximum 5 pages; about your own weekly diet plan.
Topic Test: In class test duration of 45 minutes.
Listening to video clips and extracting keywords to generate a collaboration of words from the video using web 2.0 applications.
Assignment: Food Safety > Oral Presentation:
- Think of the basic hygiene rules you follow each lesson to prevent food poisoning.
- Research on WHS issues, food qualities and government policies.
Assignment: Nutrition and health > Create a Prezi or magazine spread maximum 5 pages; about your own weekly diet plan.
- Identify why you consume these foods i.e religious, cultural or necessary for your diet.
- Identify the appropriate consumption of food nutrients specifically for your age.
Topic Test: In class test duration of 45 minutes.
